This Car Offering a high performance with serious measures to ensure safety was the major concern at Bugatti while yielding a maximum performance speed of 252.3 mph (406 km/h) to this leader of the modern era racing cars. Thanks to the single-piece carbon-fiber monocoque technology that absolutely suited the Bugatti Veyron supercar and scored the maximum points at various crash tests.

With the Bugatti EB 16.4 Veyron Pur Sang the company is continuing a tradition that produced icons like the T57 SC Atlantic and the numerous versions of the T41 Royale. Then as now Bugatti stands for a unique symbiosis of art, design and technology. Precisely this claim - manifested by company founder Ettore Bugatti and his son Jean - is reflected by the EB 16.4 Veyron Pur Sang, presented in a world premiere in Frankfurt. Reduced to pure design and technology, a car was created here that again was not the means to an end, but in fact had become a work of art in the sum of its parts. The EB 16.4 Veyron Pur Sang completely forgoes exterior paint.

The idea for the EB 16.4 Veyron Pur Sang originated in the Bugatti factory in Molsheim. In what's referred to as the studio where the high-tech components of the Veyron are assembled with painstaking precision. "When some of our designers were looking at production and once again became aware of the technical beauty of the structure," says Achim Anscheidt, Head of Bugatti Design, "they came up with the idea of finishing the car in its pure material configuration. And that means without a coating of paint."

Carbon Body

A car can never be light enough. This principal applies all the more so for the Bugatti Veyron, because it was designed for a sporty high performance. This is why the battle for each kilogram of weight has been one of the big constants in the development history of the Bugatti. Special attention was paid to materials: Only one material was used for each component, guaranteeing the best functionality at the lowest weight. Titanium, magnesium, aluminum and carbon fiber proved to be ideal.

Thanks to carbon fiber construction techniques, the monocoque of the EB 16.4 Veyron Pur Sang is not just especially light, but - as it is known for motorsport - extremely safe. The monocoque is not just a rigid survival compartment, but can also ideally dissipate crash energy through elastic deformation. The main responsibility for this lies with the frames in which the carbon fiber monocoque is integrated - done in aluminum in the front and in combination of the carbon fiber and stainless steel at the back.

Chrysler’s 300C is one of than a select group of new cars introduced this century that has already achieved iconic status. The most important contributor to this is the car’s unique shape, which is strongly reminiscent of American cars of the mid 1960s and especially Chryslers. The second factor is the ‘Hemi’ V8, which is not fitted to all variants. While the CRD diesel and V6 models are popular, it is undoubtedly the Hemi and the red hot SRT8 that are critical to perceptions about the 300C. Somehow that deep, menacing V8 engine note makes a perfect accompaniment to the aesthetics. This distinctive V8 soundtrack had already been taken advantage of by Hollywood (A History of Violence being the most conspicuous example).

Besides having its unique fame, the Chrysler 300C Hemi is also an excellent car. It is the best fruit of the now failed marriage of Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler. Mercedes engineering combines formidably with Chrysler design. You expect great performance from anything equipped with a 5.7-litre V8, even one that boasts less than the Hemi’s 250 kW of power. What you may not expect though is impressive economy on the open road. In a recent test, which involved plenty of open road driving, I returned a 300C Hemi to its local headquarters with the fuel economy readout at 9.5 litres per 100 kilometres. The automatic cylinder shutdown feature which intervenes (imperceptibly but for the readout on the instrument panel) on light or closed throttle surely contributes.

Despite its bulk, the 300C gets down to business in corners. You are always conscious of the weight of the V8 up front and this sense contrasts somewhat with the lightness of the power steering, but the big Chrysler turns in well with no lurching and mild understeer. The ride is smooth with none of the tendency to float which used to be so common in big American vehicles.

The Toyota Land Cruiser was redesigned for 2008. Known as the 200 Series, it will share the 2008 Lexus LX's platform and overall design. Though many time-honored Land Cruiser supporters have welcomed the re-invigoration of the mechanical aspects of the vehicle, the 200 Series has encountered criticism due to its controversial body restyling, with some claiming that Toyota has 'overdeveloped' the classic trademarked Land Cruiser identity in its efforts to fit the Land Cruiser in to modern 21st century motoring. Toyota presented its completely redesigned Land Cruiser in October at the 2007 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. The vehicle entered production in September and was available for sale in November 2007. Although the new Land Cruiser was presented at its first motor show in Sydney, it was already on sale in Japan, launched there in September 2007. It also became available in Venezuela for sale early in November under the local nickname of "Roraima" (Taken from Mount Roraima in Venezuela). The 200 Series is offered in three different levels of trim in Australia and Oceania:

  • GXL
  • VX
  • Sahara

The 200 Series, offered numerous features and upgrades over its predecessor not limited to the cosmetic changes made to the body and interior, including:

  • Smart Entry - A sensor is triggered when the remote is brought near the vehicle, allowing the user to simply touch the door handle to open it.
  • Smart Start - Start/Stop push button for ignition; a key is not required.
  • 4-zone climate control on Sahara models, with outlet vents increased from 18 to 28
  • 10 airbags (VX & Sahara)
  • Stronger and lighter frame

Various driver assist technologies not offered on previous models including:

  • CRAWL; a four-wheel drive control system that operates like an off-road cruise control, automatically maintaining a low uniform vehicle speed using brakes and throttle.
  • Downhill Assist Control
  • A newly developed ABS system, the multi-terrain anti-lock braking system (ABS)
  • Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), allows for greater wheel articulation

Engine and transmission improvements include:

  • An all new optional V8 Diesel engine, the 1VD-FTV (also used in the 70 Series).
  • Automatic transmission standard across all levels of trim of the 200 Series, 5-speed manual transmission is offered only with the 4.0L GX models (in selected regions). A five-speed automatic gearbox is assigned to the 4.7L petrol models, while the 4.5L diesel models receive a six-speed automatic.

The Aston Martin V12 Vanquish is a supercar manufactured by Aston Martin since 2001. It rose to fame after being featured as the official James Bond car in Die Another Day, the twentieth James Bond film. In the film, the Vanquish has the usual Bond film embellishments, including active camouflage which rendered the vehicle virtually invisible. The Vanquish is powered by a 5.9 L (5935 cc) 48-valve 60° V12 engine, which produces 343 kW (460 hp) and 542 N·m (400 ft·lbf) of torque. It is controlled by a fly-by-wire throttle and a 6 speed 'paddle shift' or semi-automatic transmission. A special V12 Vanquish S debuted at the 2004 Paris Auto Show with the power upped to 388 kW (520 hp) and 577 N·m (426 ft·lbf).

The lads and ladies at Arden have taken expertise gained from years of tuning Jaguars and Land Rovers and put it to work on the latest Range Rover. The result is the Range Rover AR7, an SUV more at home on track than off road. Under the hood, the 4.4-liter supercharged V8 gets increased to 4.5 liters, good for 480 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. This power increase results in a top speed of around 150 mph with a 0-62 mph time of 6.5 seconds. Though the press release says "elegance, discreet sportiness and understatement have always been the characteristics of British cars" the proper ride is easily differentiated from its stock counterparts by the modified skirts, new grille, revised bumpers and gigantic 23" Sportline wheels. To get all this mass to stop in time to avoid hitting a commoner, Arden has installed ventilated 6-piston and 4-piston brakes on the front and rear, respectively. Full press release below the jump.

Introduction

The Infiniti G37 sedan and coupe may sit at the bottom of Infiniti’s lineup, but they are the most entertaining of all the company’s models. Serious horsepower, refined manners, and excellent handling make the G37 sedan and coupe strong players in their segments. Larger than their German competition from Mercedes-Benz and BMW, the Infinitis also offer more standard horsepower than the Europeans. The rear-drive chassis, closely related to Nissan’s 370Z sports car, offers responsive and entertaining handling that will impress even the most die-hard sports-car enthusiast. For those who suffer through harsh winters, the G37x (both coupe and sedan) adds all-wheel drive.

The current G sedan was redesigned for 2007, and the G37 coupe was revamped for 2008. Formerly known as the G35, the G37 sedan was born when it acquired the two-door’s larger and more powerful 3.7-liter engine for 2009. The only engine available in the G lineup, the 3.7-liter V-6 makes 328 hp in the sedan and 330 hp in the coupe. We’ve previously complained that the V-6 groans when strained and sends bad vibes through the shifter and pedals, but various tweaks have largely cured the big V-6 of its coarse nature. Acceleration is brisk with the six-speed manual or the new seven-speed automatic gearbox. Although the V-6 will happily rev to its 7600-rpm redline, the torque of the V-6 makes it just as content to loaf along at lower engine speeds.

Inside, both G37 models include leather seats and a handsome interior that uses superb high-quality materials. The coupe and the sedan have a sports-car-like seating position that reflects their sporting ambitions. Rear-seat comfort and space in the four-door are excellent, but the coupe’s low-slung roofline reduces rear-seat space significantly, as you might expect.

Although the G fell off our 10Best Cars list for 2008, the powertrain revisions and the increased refinement helped the model earn a spot on our 2009 10Best roster. In a comparison test, the 2008 G35 sedan placed second behind a BMW 328i and ahead of a Cadillac CTS and Mercedes-Benz C-class. The updated G37 is an even stronger contender.

Verdict

The G37 coupe and sedan offer exceptional value, a refined and sporting driving experience, and more interior space than their German competition. Although the Infiniti can’t quite measure up to the dynamic grace of the best-in-class BMW 3-series, the G37 offers BMW 335i performance at a 328i price

What’s New for 2009

For 2009, the G sedan and coupe get a new seven-speed automatic that replaces a five-speed automatic. Sedan versions get a more-powerful 328-hp, 3.7-liter V-6 and a host of powertrain revisions intended to improve refinement. All models have more standard equipment for ’09, and the larger brakes from the coupe debut on rear-wheel-drive Sport and Sport-package-equipped versions of the G37 sedan. A convertible version of the G37 coupe is new for 2009 as well; it will go on sale early next year.

Highlights and Recommendations

The G37 sedan has four trim levels, from the well-equipped $34,000 base version to the $36,500 G37x, which has all-wheel drive. Enthusiasts will gravitate toward the Sport trim level, which brings a manual transmission, a firmer chassis with larger wheels, and the coupe’s beefier brakes—all of which add up to even sharper performance.

With the exception of the Sport trim level, all G37 sedans come standard with the new seven-speed automatic. Most buyers will be satisfied with the base version or the more luxuriously equipped Journey trim level. Coupe versions command premiums of about $3000 over their four-door counterparts, and coupe trim levels mirror those of the G37 sedan. The coupe’s swoopy looks are attractive, but we’d find it hard to pass up the practicality and cost saving of the sedan model.

Safety

Dual front airbags, front-seat-mounted side-impact airbags, curtain airbags, front-seatbelt pretensioners, front-seat active head restraints, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, and tire-pressure monitoring are standard across the entire G37 range.

A second supercar could appear based on the FXX development program, we think it far more likely that one vehicle will prevail, borrowing on themes and components from both the Millechili and the FXX test-bed.With the Enzo now out of production, and no mega-super-car in the Ferrari stable, the prancing stallion brand believes the Millechili concept, first revealed at the automaker’s 60th anniversary extravaganza, to move from the realm of conceptual toilet paper tubes to production.

The buff book’s sources report Ferrari is looking to see the Ferrari Millechili hit the streets as a 2010 model. One approach is reportedly being based on the Millechili concept, which as you’ll recall was essentially a chopped-down Enzo crafted out of cardboard and plastic holding the promise of environmentally-friendly specs. The production vehicle is tipped to be based on the F430’s platform remember that the 288 GTO and F40 were based on modified 308 underpinnings – but feature a 600hp V10 in a lightweight 1000kg package, with a lengthened wheelbase of around 104 inces, a $500,000 price tag and a production run of 300.
